24/7 emergency call-out

Emergency plumber in Halifax, any hour

If water’s coming in and you need somebody now, stop reading and ring. We answer the phone at 3am the same way we answer it at 3pm.

Before we arrive

Three things to do while you wait

Most of the damage happens in the first twenty minutes. Ring first, then do these while we’re on the way.

1. Find the stopcock

Under the kitchen sink usually. Older Calderdale housing hides it in the cellar head, under the stairs or beneath a metal cover in the pavement. Clockwise, firmly, until it stops turning.

2. Try the local isolator

If only one thing is leaking, the pipe feeding it often has its own small valve with a screw slot. A quarter turn with a flat screwdriver isolates that one appliance and leaves the rest of the house with water.

3. Think about what’s below

Water travels. Move anything valuable out from under the leak, put a bucket where it’s dripping, and if it’s anywhere near a downlight or the fuse board, switch that circuit off before it reaches them.

Right now is the worst time for it. Ring us.

24 hours a day, seven days a week, all over Calderdale. We’ll tell you honestly how soon we can be there.

What we come out to

The calls we get at unsociable hours

  • Pipework in cold cellars and voidsUninsulated runs in stone properties freeze first and let go as they thaw. We see a wave of them every cold snap.
  • Damp patches nobody can explainA stain that grows week by week is a leak, not condensation. Tracing it beats guessing at plasterboard.
  • Kitchen floods behind appliancesWasher hoses and dishwasher connections perish quietly and fail all at once.
  • Heating dead in a cold houseLockout codes, pressure on the floor, a pump that’s seized or a diverter that’s stopped diverting.
  • Cisterns that won’t stop fillingWastes water constantly and floods the floor if the overflow is blocked.
  • Valves that won’t shutAn old stopcock is fine until the day you need it, which is the day it seizes.

The plumber fixed a leaking trap and shut-off valve underneath my kitchen sink. It was an emergency job and he came straight away at 21:00 in the evening. He was prompt in attending my call and offered a professional service at a fair price. We will definitely be calling plumber to the rescue back again to assist with the installation of our dishwasher.

Had a great experience and would 100% recommend! We had a leak in our washer and a previous leak under the bathroom sink. The team was able to address both issues and also caught a small leak in our washer hose that could have caused problems later. You can tell they put a lot of honesty and care into their work. We’ve had our fair share of bad plumber experiences, but with them, we really appreciated how we were shown the root of each problem and kept informed throughout. They also made sure to test everything multiple times to ensure the issues were fully resolved.

FAQs

Emergency questions

What counts as a plumbing emergency?

Water escaping and doing damage, no water at all, or no heating and hot water in cold weather. Bursts, a ceiling stain spreading, an overflowing cistern, a toilet that won’t stop filling, a stopcock that won’t turn.

Is somebody really answering at 3am?

Yes. A plumber, not a message service. Somebody who can talk you through stopping the damage while we’re on the way.

I can’t find the stopcock — where should I look?

Kitchen sink cupboard first. In Calderdale’s stone terraces and back-to-backs it’s often in the cellar head, under the stairs or in a downstairs cupboard, and sometimes outside under a small metal cover in the pavement. Clockwise until it stops.

Can I stop it myself before you arrive?

Often. Many sinks, toilets and radiators have their own isolation valve on the pipe feeding them — a small screw slot you turn a quarter turn with a flat screwdriver. If the leak is on one appliance, that alone may hold it.

Water is near my electrics. What do I do?

Don’t touch anything wet near a socket, downlight or the consumer unit. If you can reach the board safely, switch that circuit off. Ring us and say so, so we know what we’re coming to.

Does a night call-out cost more?

You’ll be told the price once we understand the job and before work starts, whatever the hour. Nobody gets handed a made-up figure at four in the morning.
